on Tuscany:
In winter, since that is when we grow wheat, the hills are covered with
the most vibrant emerald green. We love to eat and cook... For the holidays
you will be able to taste specialties of the local cuisine that you never
had before. Spring explodes in March, with all the wild flowers and mimosa
blossoms. The fruit trees start to bloom then and reach their peak in April.
It is time for fresh asparagus, artichokes, peas, and all the new lettuces.
May and June are fragrant with roses, lilacs, irises and peonies. Every
house has flower pots and urns outside the door. July and August are opulent
with fruits. Peaches, plums, cherries, and apricots are picked ripe from
the trees. It is the time to go swimming at the seashore and have a great
fish dinner in Orbetello or Follonica. In October and November people are
making wine, collecting chestnuts and wild mushrooms in the forest...it
is a splendid time to be there. Even if San Lorenzo has a beautiful church,
you shouldn't miss San Galgano, the most spiritual and gorgeous Gothic abbey
inTuscany. It is in the middle of the Tuscan hills a few miles on the road
after Monticiano.
Tuscan Villas
The houses in Tuscany are authentic, and authentically restored, pre-Renaissance buildings, in the village of San Lorenzo a Merse. They have no gardens or acreage, which is typical of genuine pre- or Renaissance villages, but the whole village is a wonderful livable space; the square in front of the Church, the steps around the old well, the low walls; people always find a moment to sit and chat and play with children and cats.
Villa
in via del Pizzicore ![]() |

The
house in Via del Pizzicore is divided into three floors: two bedrooms,
two bathrooms plus a shower room in white mosaic, a walk-in closet,
kitchen and living- dining room, with a bread oven, a fantastic fireplace,
large windows with balcony and a glass terrace with a view of the
valleys and the Tuscan hills. It is totally renovated and restored
respecting the original stone walls, the chestnut-wood beams and antique
tiles, introducing modern technology and concepts as well as art in
the design of the staircase that turns as a sculpture from the ground
floor to the third floor in travertinestone and wood. The large fireplace
itself is a sculpture, extending from the living-room to the bedroom
on the third floor. |
| The fusion between antique and modern was also respected in furnishing and decorating the space, obtaining a result of style, elegance, and simplicity. Special tile, mosaic and stone work was used in the bathrooms and the kitchen, which is designed with real cooks in mind. The house is equipped with new appliances: television, radio, washing machine, refrigerator and telephone. The hot water and heating system is adjustable to individual needs. | ![]() |

In the entrance a beautiful antique bread oven and a terra cotta urn that was used to soak the linens in ashes to make them sparkling white. Several large, and a few precious small windows give you a view of the village, the valley and Tuscan hills. The house is totally renovated and restored respecting the tradition of local architecture: The chestnut-woodbeams, the antique tiles, the rough, white, stucco walls, introducing modern technology and appliances to meet the comfort of the guests. Antique and rustic furniture and decor, hand-made crochet curtains and old tools give the house an enchanting air. The hot water and heating systems are adjustable to individual needs. The house is equipped with radio, television, refrigerator, washing machine, telephone and answering machine. |
Siglinda
on Rome:
Fellini used to say that, 'Roma is an opulent prostitute: Colorful, arrogant,
thoughtless, generous, and able to laugh at all human miseries.' I agree
to some extent. To get to know Roma you have to breathe the Roman summer
sunsets and nights, but I believe that nobody ever described and talked
of Roma with more passion and understanding than Pier Paolo Pasolini. In
fact, I strongly suggest if you haven't done it yet that you would read
at least one of his books. My favorites are Una Vita Violenta (A Violent
Life) and Ragazzi Di VIta (The Ragazzi).
I love the Tiber Island, Trastevere, and Borgo Pio (the old part of the city near the Vatican), The flea market, Porta Portese, is open on Sundays from 6 am to 2 pm. Campo de Fiori is one of the finest open food markets in the city. I adore to have a cappuccino and cornetto in one of the cafes by the market and then buy fresh bread, fish, mozzarella, prosciutto, fruit and vegetable, go home and cook a great meal, set the table in the garden, with good music and a bottle of cool Frascati wine.
If you are up for a real treat go to 'L'Antica Pesa' in Via Garibaldi near Trastevere. It is the restaurant of the Italian Government Mafia. (Not to worry, they are only dangerous to our people and our country and they always manage to get elected....What is new?!) The food is suberb and the walls are decorated by many of the best Italian painters, they also have a good collection of sculptures. The name of the owner is Pietro, a real street kid. Roma is one of the most fascinating cities in the world. Just outside of the city, Ostia Antica, Pompeii, and all the Etruscan towns and museums are a must.Having Roma as a home base, (in a comfortable apartment where you can rest, can make your vacation a real success,) you could visit the Mediterranean shore of Italy, starting from the Sperlonga, a beautifully preserved small town on the coast of north Napoli, and then, south of Napoli all the way to the tip of the boot the old architectural vernacular of the white villages is unique.
The village of Capri on the Island of Capri and everywhere along the Amalfi coast. All the villages are white, clean, and of extraordinary beauty.

The bed is a king-sized bed and in the living room there is a double bed sofa to accommodate guests. The appliances include stove, refrigerator, washing machine, and radio. Hot water and heating system are independent from the rest of the building and adjustable to personal needs. |

The building was built in the 50's, and it is located at 10 minutes, walking distance from the Vatican Museums. The apartment is the only one on the top of the building, at the seventh floor with an elevator to the sixth floor. It is important to say that it is extremely quiet, safe, and private. Public transportation is just around the corner from the building and comfortably connects you with all parts of the city. |
